CHIROPRACTIC, despite being recognized as a health profession by the World Health Organization (WHO), and having recognition in most of the developed countries of the world, including many European countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Portugal, Italy, Denmark or Switzerland, IS NOT A HEALTH PROFESSION AND HAS NOT BEEN OBJECT OF EXPRESS REGULATION IN SPAIN. As health legislation is a matter of domestic law and reserved for the sovereignty of each EU member country, the chiropractic profession in Spain is in a situation of regulatory vacuum. The Spanish Association of Chiropractors (A.E.Q.), has asked that the Parliament promotes the legislative process that recognizes the healthcare role of the chiropractic profession. In countries that have regulations, the degree in Chiropractic is obtained at the end of the educational programs of 5 or 6 years.
The A.E.Q. Was created and recognized by the Ministry of Interior in 1986, includes 250 members who hold a university degree recognized by the Council of European Chiropractic Education, which guarantees the fulfillment of the highest quality standards in the exercise of this profession at a European level. Unfortunately, to date, Chiropractic qualifications are NOT OFFICIAL TITLES IN SPAIN.
