Benefits offered by Ultrasound in Sportsmen and Women

September 19th 2022

People who practice sports frequently have healthier lifestyle habits, sleep better, are in better health, have more controlled stress levels and a greater sense of happiness in their daily lives. However, they are also more likely to suffer an injury.

Why is this? Doing sport is healthy and is indicated, however, it produces a mechanical and physiological stress in the body that can become a tissue injury, especially if it is done at high intensities and frequencies, if a good technique is not carried out or if the conditions are not the best.

At Madrid Health we see many athletes every day with different types of ailments, which prevent them from performing at 100% or simply make them uncomfortable to have any kind of discomfort or pain. Often the cause of the injury and the tissue that is affected is unknown; however, at Madrid Health we have the latest technology when it comes to tackling this problem: ultrasound.

Madrid Health has its ultrasound service available for each of its patients, whether they are athletes or not. Ultrasound is a procedure that uses video and images to study the state of the patient’s structures in real time. From bones, ligaments, tendons, nerves or muscles; almost all tissues can be evaluated with ultrasound.

How can ultrasound help an athlete? In case of injury, it is possible to study which tissue is affected, where and how much. Thus, it is very precise, objective and extremely analytical.

Thanks to ultrasound, the physiotherapist can see with his own eyes the internal aspect of all the structures and thus decide which treatment and techniques are the most suitable to start the action plan and help the patient from day 1.

The physiotherapy approach will be different if for example it is a muscle or a nerve that is injured. Without an ultrasound test, it is very difficult to objectify the type of injury and the chances of therapeutic success are reduced; but if you have the information from the ultrasound you will be able to progress faster and better.
