Explaining Shockwave Therapy

August 23rd 2021

Shock waves are a type of high-energy, high-frequency sound wave used by physical therapists in order to relieve stress within soft tissues, increase joint range of motion, and reduce pain. They can be used in the muscles, tendons and ligaments of the human body.

Its method of use is very simple, first the patient is explained the sensation they will feel: it will be similar to a percussion or vibration in the area. Then, we proceed to clean and disinfect the patient’s skin and then apply an ultrasound gel that will help better guide the acoustic wave to the treated tissue.

After that, we position the shock wave head on the patient’s skin and begin the treatment. Always making it tolerable and asking the patient for their feelings.

After finishing the treatment, the skin and the machine head are cleaned and disinfected.
