Spinal Stenosis
Spinal Pain

I'm Thinking of Getting or Waiting for a Spinal Surgery

This is a common dilemma for a lot of people, when degeneration of the spine causes painful arthritis and shooting pain down the leg! Sometimes it seems surgery is the only option as the pain has been getting worse for months now!

Your case has become complicated, difficult to treat, your medication consumption may have increased dramatically as your situation is getting worse. You have spent a lot of time online looking for answers including the time you spend here with us.

Does this sound familiar?

We believe surgery should always be a last option, especially when the best conservative care has failed. There’s a common saying - you can replace your teeth but not your spine. A lot of our patients had previously suffered from Spinal Stenosis caused by Arthritis in the spine.

Bulging Disc

Spinal Stenosis or narrowing of the spinal cord canal is a condition that affects many adults after the age of 50. This occurs when the spinal canal, containing the nerve roots and spinal cord becomes constricted or compressed usually by bone spurs or disc bulges. This can lead to compression of the spinal cord or spinal nerves resulting in cramping, pain or numbness in the back, legs, and or feet.

People suffering from Spinal Stenosis may have trouble walking any significant distance, and usually must sit or lean forward to relieve the pain. The pain, numbness and tingling are usually equally down both legs.

We see a lot of patients with Arthritis, Back Pain and Spinal Stenosis that has often been troubling them for years. We’re fortunate to have specific technology that can make a HUGE difference – Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression and Class IV Laser!

At Madrid Health we first want to find out WHY it’s happening!

We can then determine what needs to be done in order to move forward FAST. We will always give realistic time frames, a care plan and costs.

Our Thermography studies and specific examination can pin-point the problem and we work towards the solution! We have the services of an X-ray and MRI Centre a few minutes walk away that can provide same day images.

L5S1 Thermography L5S1 MRI Scan

Our FAST results with this patient consisted of Spinal Decompression Therapy which slowly lengthens and decompresses the spine, creating negative pressures within the discs.

This reversal of pressure creates a vacuum inside the discs that helps to reposition bulging discs and draw the extruded disc material back into place, taking pressure off pinched nerves! The treatment also restores movement to the spinal joints that may be fixed or “locked up” and gently stretches the deep spinal muscles that are frequently tight around the spinal problem.

Decompression Bench

We often use our Class IV Laser machine with Spinal Decompression which works by flooding tissues like muscles, ligaments and tendons with protons of light at a specific wavelength.

The photons energize cells in damaged tissues and increase circulation at the site of injury producing a cascade of rapid and natural healing responses. This will eliminate pain and promote tissue repair!

Laser Therapy

What is the Typical Treatment Protocol?

A typical Spinal Decompression treatment and Laser protocol consists of about 12–20 sessions over four to six weeks. Some conditions require fewer visits; some require more. Many patients report relief from their pain and other symptoms during the first few treatment sessions, and most experience dramatic pain relief after completion of their prescribed treatment program.

Will It Work?

Based on several years of experience and thousands of patients treated with our DOC Spinal Decompression machine the overall success rate is around 80%. We consider this success rate to be EXTREMELY good considering most patients have tried everything else with minimal or no relief and have been experiencing their pain for greater than 6 weeks. Quite often people see us after visiting several different therapists (like Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors) and without any real progress and feel at a loose end! Our goal will always be to support you as best we can.

How Long Will It Take to See Results?

About 20% of patients will start seeing relief of pain within the first week. Around 40% of patients will have significant relief within 2–3 weeks. The remaining 20% will get SIGNIFICANT relief between 4–6 weeks. Less than 20% will experience no relief or minimal relief. Very rarely will a patient get worse.
